Infarm was a global agritech startup that was transforming the food supply chain by creating the world’s largest network of vertical farms, enabling cities to become self-sufficient in food production.

Challenge & Responsibilities

As the startup expanded, it became clear that the existing digital tools were fragmented, and new user groups lacked the right tools to manage farming operations efficiently. I worked with the product leadership team to create a digital strategy and design a vision for an operating system that would manage all aspects of vertical farming, from planting to harvesting.

Running Co-Workshops to Shape the Future Vision

To kick things off we ran a workshop with stakeholders from various departments, including product, software, and operations to outline the how the processed of Infarm’s farming hubs will evolve over the next 3-4 years. We defined a future end-to-end hub journey and identified critical moments for several new user group.

Key Moments

Validating initial Ideas with Users & Conceptualise the Vision

We began drafting visual scenarios to showcase the key moments within the hub journey and created initial wireframes, outlining the system’s information architecture and solution strategy. Our aim was to define a tangible vision early in the process and then validate these concepts through user testing.

Core Concepts

Delivering a Tangible Vision & Actionable Strategy

After several iterations we created high-fidelity mockups and a clickable prototype to showcase the vision from the different user point of views. This made the vision more tangible, allowing the different product teams to better understand who they build the software for and why.

Vision Highlights

Simon Gwinner

Simon is a forward-thinking designer at core. During our work together, Simon was always pushing the design limitations and vision towards future-proofing our products without losing sight of the current work. His skill in balancing multiple realities makes him a very pragmatic and strategic designer.

Outcome

Together with the leadership team we broke down the vision into a 1-year roadmap, identifying gaps to overcome and setting clear priorities for now, next, and future iterations.

The vision and aligned strategy provided a clear path forward for building Infarm’s new digital operating system. Our work made the vision tangible for product, design, engineering and operation teams on how to tackle the challenges of vertical farming and ensure a consistent, efficient experience across Infarm’s global network for the future.
